Vishnu Sakharam Khandekar is a Marathi writer known for his novels, stories, plays, and essays. He was born on 11th January 1898 in Sangli, Maharashtra. Khandekar had a passion for plays from childhood and acted in several of them. In 1913 he joined Fergusson College in Pune. After college, he took up teaching as a profession and worked as a teacher from 1920 to 1938 in a school in the small town of Shiroda. Khandekar wrote 16 novels such as “Yayati,” “Hridayachi Haak,” “Kanchanmrig,” “Ulka,”“Pahle Prem,”“Amritvel,”“Ashru,”and “Soneri Swapne Bhangalel.”

His works have also been adapted to Hindi films such as “Jwala,”“ Amrit Amrit is a Music Director in the Film Industry. He >> Read More... ,” and “Dharmapatni.” He wrote the screenplay and dialogues of the Marathi film “Lagna Pahave Karoon.” Khandekar was awarded the Jnanpith Award, the highest honour of Indian Literature, in 1974, and the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 1968 in the field of literature and education.He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award (Marathi) in 1960 for his novel “Yayati.” He had his demise on 2nd September 1976.
