Venu Kunnappilly is a Dubai businessman and long-time UAE resident. He has a dealership in several industries like auto spare parts, lubricants, textiles, and construction. Also, Kunnaooilly is passionate about films and has now stepped into the film industry as a producer. Kunnappilly has produced a Hollywood release After Midnight (2019) formally known as Something Else.
Kunnappilly was the producer of the 2019 film, lead by Mollywood actor Mammootty, a period action drama Mamangam. It is one of the most expensive Malayalam films to date. Mamangam hit the screens on December 12, 2019, and turned out to be an enormous success. The project initially received some hate and backlash even before the movie was released.
It was due to be released in November of 2019, but the date was pushed back to December instead. And way before the release, the film’s plot, actors, and style were being criticized. This Kunnappilly claims as targeted hate. But despite these initial hiccups, the movies managed to cross the hundred crore mark at the worldwide box office. Mamangam was released in over 400 theatres in Kerala and over 2000 theatres worldwide.
