Kim Tae Kyun is a film director, producer cum screenplay writer, born on 17th July 1960 in Seoul, South Korea. He did his political science degree at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Kim also went to the Korean Academy of Film Arts. He started his movie career in 1987 with a short film in the lighting department. He also worked in the short film Moon. He made his debut as a director in the short film, Stopping For A While. In 1990, he worked as the line producer in My Love My Bride, directed by Lee Myung-Se. In 1992, he worked in the film As You Please as the executive producer. In 1993, he was the line producer in the film First Kiss directed by Kim Tae Kyun. In 1995, he was the executive producer in the film Bitter And Sweet. In 1996, he made his debut as the director in the film, The Adventures of Mrs. Park. In 1999, he directed a short film, Julseogi.

In 2001, he was seen directing Volcano High. It is a martial arts movie laced with comedy. The film featured Jang Hyuk, Shin Min-ah, Kim Su-ro, Kwon Sang-woo, and Heo Joon-ho. In 2003, Kim directed a short film, At 2 O’clock. Temptation of Wolves that released in 2004, had Kim as the director and screenplay writer. The film that has Jo Han-sun, Lee Chung-ah, and Gang Dong-won in the cast was one of the highest-grossing Korean movies of the year. In 2005, Kim Tae Kyun directed I’m Ok, a short film.

In 2008, he directed Crossing with Cha In-Pyo and Sin Myeong-Cheol. This film was sent to the 81st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2010, he directed Higanjima with Hideo Ishiguro, Dai Watanabe, Miori Takimoto, Tomohisa Yuge, Osamu Adachi, Asami Mizukawa, and Koji Yamamoto. In the same year, he edited the script, directed and produced A Barefoot Dream. It has Park Hee-soon and Ko Chang-Seok in the lead roles.

In 2012, Kim worked as a production adviser for the films The Dearest, Sympathy For Us, Choked, and Mirage. In 2013, he was the Production Consultant for the films, When Winter Screams, Your Time Is Up, and INGtoogi: The Battle of Internet Trolls. He was also the screenplay consultant in When Winter Screams. In 2014, Kim produced A Pharisee. In the same year, he directed a couple of films, Innocent Thing and Bad Sister. In 2017, he produced Beastie Girls, directed by Sin Ji Woo.
