Kandla participated in Master Chef India Season 1 as an amateur cook who competed amongst the top five finalists.
Kandla got recognition as a baking expert in this cooking platform in 2010. Kandla brought up in Delhi had her home in Chandigarh since 1981. Her mother became a bonsai enthusiast after working as a psychologist. Kandla started her schooling from The Modern School, Barakhamba Road in 1961.
Later she did her graduation from Miranda House in B.ED in 1972. She learned about cooking skills in the Delhi University. Kandla always fluent in the English language helped her and got her an opportunity to work as a food columnist and write articles for the newspaper called Lifestyle in the column of ‘The Tribune’s Saturday.’
She got married to an entrepreneur Vivekanand Nijhowne on 27th July 1980. She has two children Mahima and Vaibhav Nijhowne. Kandla participated as a contestant in MasterChef India Season 1 in 2010. She had wonderful baking skills and knew how to use intricacy creatively in her presentation. She got her inspiration for cooking when she stayed in the UK.
Her inspiration took her to the top five contestants of MasterChef. She got admiration by all the judges for her baking skills. Kandla also got acknowledged by the Royal Highness Maharaja Shri Arvindji of Udaipur for making the best dish amongst the other contestants in the Rajasthan challenge. In 2012 she returned on the sets of MasterChef India Season 2 where she threw cooking challenges for the top five contestants of that season.
Kandla is a baking specialist and continental cuisines, cakes and desserts are her platforms to perform which is the specific part of her menu in catering in Chandigarh. She has been part of many cookery based activities and shows at The British Library, CII, and FabIndia where she talks about different cuisines, healthy foods and benefits of baking over frying for health.
She spoke about cooking at Jagran Lakecity University in 2015. She also got recognition in national level magazines, Tv cookery show by the BBC worldwide in Mumbai, News Today Live. She also shared her recipe in Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana. She is self-employed and conducts lots of workshops in malls and other well-known events in Chandigarh.
