Marzi Pestonji is a well-known choreographer and dancer from India. The Indian television audience would recognize him as one of the judges from the hit TV reality show ‘Dance India Dance’ (DID). Born into the Bollywood dream city Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra, Marzi Pestonji had an inclination towards dance from a very young age. In 1993, he decided to take up in dance as a hobby and didn’t expect anything more than just a hobby. He had found his self in this hobby, and he later on decided to get enrolled in Shiamak Davar’s Institute of Performing Arts (SDIPA). He had turned out to be such an amazing student that later on he went on to be Shiamak’s assistant choreographer, working with him to choreograph for many large scale shows and events. He is presently a Senior Faculty, Director of Operations and Principal Dancer at Shiamak’s institute, SDIPA. He sought to train to keep himself ahead and to stay true to his passion.
He underwent training at Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) in Los Angeles in the United States. Later he moved to
and enrolled at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre’s Master Classes and also from Broadway Dance Center. His journey to seek perfection did not end there. He moved to Vancouver in Canada to undergo training from Harbour Dance Center. His career has been filled with experiences and has performed in front of great personalities and for great events and shows. He performed for the Richard Gere Foundation, and also in the presence of stars like
and former American President Bill Clinton. He was also a part of the ceremonies of the Common Wealth Games in 2010 which took place in
and at the closing ceremony of Melbourne Common Wealth Games in the year 2006.
He started his career as a reality television show judge from Zee TV’s
and went on to be the judge of DID Lil’ Masters as well. He was famous for his shortcomings in speaking Hindi, which he is known to take very sportingly. In 2015, he was the judge for
season 7. He got married to Kashmira Pestonji and currently lives in Mumbai.
