Niloy Shanker Gupta is an Indian actor and cinematographer who is best known for his role in the Netflix anthology, ‘III Smoking Barrels.’ Niloy comes from Guwahati in Assam. He comes from a family of trained artists, who were prominent theatrical performers. This background helped him develop a keen inclination for acting. He began doing supporting roles in local stage productions and moved on to television acting for Assamese soaps. Niloy got his big break with the series, ‘III Smoking Barrels-Stories from far East India,’ directed by Sanjib Dey.
He took on the role of a character called Dhiren in the thriller featuring the dark underside of North-East India. The story entwines the lives of different people in a compelling and uniquely executed narrative. It was selected to be screened at multiple film festivals and was the recipient of the ‘Silver Palm Award for Best Narrative,’ as well as other international accolades. Niloy continues to be a part of the entertainment industry while also taking an active interest in the nation’s political policies towards the regional minorities. He has been an active member of the Film Fraternity of Assam.
