Viren Rasquinha was born as Viren Wilfred Rasquinha on 13th September 1980 in Maharashtra. He was a hockey player by profession. His parents are Eric Rasquinha and Merlyn Rasquinha. He completed his schooling at St. Stanislaus High School in Mumbai. He got his B. Com degree from MMK College in Mumbai. He completed his Master’s in Business Administration in 2008 from the Indian School of Business located in Hyderabad. Viren Rasquinha made his international hockey debut in 1999. He was in the Indian team that won the Junior World Cup in 2001 held in Hobart, Australia. In the next year, he was selected in the Indian team as a midfielder. In 2002, he was a part of the Indian team at a four-nation tournament held in Adelaide. He had been in the team that won the silver medal at the Asian Games held in Busan in 2002. In 2003, the Indian team won gold medals in the Asia Cup held in Kuala Lumpur and Afro Asian Games held in Hyderabad. He had been a part of India’s success in both these games. In 2004, he played for the nation in the Olympic Games held in Athens, where India finished in seventh place.
In 2004, he captained the Indian team in a series against Pakistan. Rasquinha had played 180 international matches. He also led Maratha Warriors in the Premier Hockey League. Viren had also played for Air India, Indian Oil Corporation and Tata Sports. In 2008, Viren retired from the sport and continued his studies. He was just 28 at the time of his retirement. In 2009, he joined the Olympic Gold Quest, where he is the CEO at present. In 2013, he entered wedlock with Smitha Nair. Viren was honored with Shiv Chhatrapati Award in 2004 from the Government of Maharashtra and in 2005, he received the Arjuna Award for the Best Sportsman in Hockey.
