Shiva Keshavan was born on 25th August 1981. In 2012, he set a new Asian record in 49.590 seconds. He is the reigning Asian champion. At the age of 15, he attended a fine camp at his school run by world champion Gunther Lemmerer. Keshavan was selected as the most promising young athlete and became the youngest person to ever officially qualify for the Olympics, attending the 1998 Nano Games at the age of 16. However, later during the Sochi Winter Olympics, the Indian Olympic Association returned as a country known to the International Olympic Committee, which led to Keshavan competing under the Indian flag. Since November 2014, Keshavan has partnered with Duncan Kennedy to coach the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Duncan has worked as Keshavan's personal trainer while using his technical skills to improve Keshavan's sled. Keshavan qualified for his sixth and final games at the 2018 Olympics, where he finished thirty-four out of 40 in the singles men's race. In 2014, Shiva Keshavan became the founding president of the Olympians Association of India and committed to sponsoring the Olympic Association of India. Keshavan often speaks in interviews about his struggle to support his work. Early in his career, he borrowed sledges from his races. After arriving in Montreal for the 2002 Games, he did not compete for two seasons due to financial constraints. He is the son of an Indian father from Kerala and an Italian mother, who met while packing back in the Himalayas in the 1970's. Her parents own an Italian restaurant in Himachal Pradesh. He was born and raised in Manali, Himachal Pradesh and attended The Lawrence School, Sanawar.

He married Namita Agarwal, a former schoolmate, who is also in charge of the sport's director.He completed his studies in humanities and political science at the University of Florence and obtained a Masters. During his training year, he works at his parents' restaurant Rose Rose. Since then, 200 Indian children have visited his training camps,Keshavan gained fame after a training session where he fell into his nest but managed to climb back up and finish the run; Shiva is a five-time Olympian.
