Rohit is an Indian cricketer, born on 30th April 1987 in Bansod, Nagpur in Maharashtra. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. His parents are Gurunath Sharma and Purnima Sharma. His father worked in a transport firm. His mom Purnima is from Visakhapatnam. Rohit has a brother, VishalSharma. Rohit grew at his grandparents’ house in Mumbai. In 1999, he joined a cricket camp coached by Dinesh Lad. His coach asked him to move to Swami Vivekanand International School, where he worked, as it has better facilities for cricket. After getting a scholarship, Rohit joined the school. Dinesh Lad trained him well and polished Rohit’s cricketing skills. Rohit hit a century in the Harris and Giles Shield school cricket tournaments on his debut match as an opener. He started his official career in 2005 for West Zone in the Deodhar Trophy. He scored 31 and was not out at the eighth position, and his team won the match. His first-class debut for the Indian A team was against New Zealand A in July 2006. Rohit scored 57 in the first innings and 22 in the second innings. In the same year, he debuted in the Ranji Trophy and scored 205 runs from 267 balls in the first innings and 57 in the second innings. He represented Mumbai.

Rohit started his international debut at Eden Gardens against the West Indies. He hit 177 runs, and it is the second-highest score by an Indian on his debut. In the second match, he once again hit a century and stayed not out with 111. His One Day International debut was on 23rd June 2007 against Ireland. He made his international T20 debut on 19th September 2007 against England. He played for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, one of the biggest county cricket tournaments among the cricket-playing nations. Rohit is the vice-captain of the Indian team and the captain of the Mumbai Indians, the IPL team. Till 2021, he has played 376 international matches that include 227 ODIs, 38 Tests, and 111 T20s. He had scored 40 centuries so far in 29 ODIs, 7 Test matches, and 4 T20s. Rohit was honored with Arjuna Award in 2015 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2020.He had been awarded as the ICC ODI Player of the year in 2019.
