Author Varsha Bhosle was based in Mumbai. She was Asha Bhosle's (an Indian playback singer) daughter. She and her mother resided in Mumbai. Hemant Kenkre, a sports journalist and public relations specialist, was the husband she had married before their divorce in 1998. She received psychiatric treatment since she had a history of depression that was made worse by losing a close friend. She reportedly overdosed on prescribed medication to commit suicide on September 9, 2008 and was then taken to the Jaslok hospital in Mumbai. Bhosle killed herself at her Prabhu Kunj home in Mumbai on October 8, 2012. Her mother's driver and maid found her body in a pool of blood on the sofa at her house.
