Pankaj Udhas

The King of Ghazals, Pankaj Udhas was born on 17th may 1951 in Rajkot, Jaipur. His whole family is into the world of music. He had studied in Sir BPTI Bhavanagar.His family moved to Mumbai and Pankaj pursued his degree at ST. Xavier's College, Mumbai. He also got trained in Indian Classical Vocal under the tutelage of Master Navarang. His first stage performance was during the Sino-Indian War where he sang, “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon.” He was Awarded “Padmashree” in 2006, for his contribution to the art of ghazal singing his huge contribution to cancer patients and thalassemic children through his on the occasion of him completing 25 years of ghazal singing. In 2006, he was honored with the prestigious "Kalakar" award at Kolkata for " Hasrat Hasrat is a Pakistani serial that premiered in 202 >> Read More... " as "Best Ghazal album of 2005". As well as in 1998, he was awarded Indian Arts Awards Gala presented by the Mayor of the City of Jersey City. Pankaj Udhas is married to Farida. They have two daughters, Nayaab, and Reva.

Pankaj had been suffering from pancreatic disease and had been getting treatment for the same. He died on 26th February 2024. It was his daughter who took the social media handle and announced his sudden demise. Pankaj was 72.
