Pandit Chhannulal Mishra was a great classical singer in India of Khayal and Thumri Ragas. He was born on 3 August 1936 in Hariharpur, Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. He received initial classical music training from his father, Badri Prasad Mishra, and later learned under Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan of the Kiran Gharana. His further training went under a renowned musicologist Padmabhushan Thakur Jaidev Singh. Chhannulal married Manorama Mishra, daughter of Pt. Anokhelal Mishra a legendary Tabla maestro of the country. He has a son Pt. Ram Kumar Mishra, an emerging Tabla maestro. Blessed with a magnificent voice, he has sung the songs of the genre of the ecstatic Kirana Badhat and the Patiala Gharana.

Pandit Chhannulal Mishra has traveled to several places and performed at multiple musical conferences and concerts in India and abroad, including Washington DC, New York Click to look into! >> Read More... , Chicago, etc. He was a well-known and highly skilled artist of the All India Radio and the Doordarshan. During the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Independence of India, Chhhannulal Mishra has invited by ICCR, and he has given several performances in the USA. Chhannulal Mishra was also a member of the Ministry of Culture (North-central) Govt. of India. He resides in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, where he teaches music to Indian and foreign students. Pandit Chhannulal Mishra has released several songs in different ragas and gharanas.

He has given his voice to a few Bollywood movies, namely the title track of Mohalla Assi and two songs for the film Aakarshan in 2011, Kaun Si Dor and Saans Albeli. Pandit Chhannulal Mishra has won several awards for his excellence in Indian Classical Music. He has been honored with the Shiromani Award of Sur Singar Sansad in Bombay, Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Naushad Award, Yash Bharti Award of Uttar Pradesh Government, and Bihar Sangeet Shiromani Award. On 25 January 2010, he has honored with the Padma Bhushan Award and Padma Vibhushan in 2020.
