Girish Tiwari was an extraordinary personality, not only a scriptwriter but also a poet, singer, director, lyricist, literary writer, social activist, and organic culturist. Girish's full name was Girish Tiwari, "Girda." He was born on 10th September 1945 in the Almora District of Uttarakhand. His father's name was Hansadutt Tiwari, his mother was Jiwanti Devi, and his wife Hemlata Tiwari. Girish Tiwari has completed his school at the Government Inter College in Almora and relocated to Nainital for further studies. He met social activists at Lakheempur Khiri when he was only twenty-one. Girda realized his potential for creativity after meeting well-known lyricist and writer Late Brijendra Lal Sah. All these meetings changed his life and made him a creative writer and a social activist. Girish started his career in 1967 with a small job in Lukhnow.

He also went to the office of Akashwani in Lucknow. In 1968, he published his first poetry collection, "Shikharon ke Swar." In 1969, Girish directed many famous plays like "Andha Yug," "Andher Nagri," "Bharat Durdasha," and many more. Girda has written many plays, "Nagare Khamosh Hain" and "Dhanush Yagya," and edited poems like "Hamari Kavita ke Ankhar" and "Rang Dari Dio Albelin Main." In 2002, his latest compilation of poems and songs focused on "Uttarakhand Andolan" and "Uttarakhand Kavya."

He also has been associated with Chipko Movement. After retirement from the post of instructorship in the Song and Drama Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he joined the Uttarakhand movement as a full-time creative writer. Girish was one of the founders and members of the editorial board of Pahar Group. This group is involved with the promotion of Himalayan culture situated in Nainital. Pahar Group is compiling a book named "Girda Samarga," which includes his creative writings, poems, songs, essays, etc. After his achievements and success, he suffered from Ulcers and died on 22nd August 2010.
