Shantaram Nandgaonkar was born on October 19, 1936. He was a native of Kankavali, Nandgaon, in Konkon. He studied at Shirodkar High School in Paral, Mumbai. He came to Mumbai when he was a child. He was a well-known poet, lyricist, and actor. He won the hearts of the audience with his devotional songs and poems. He wrote several songs in Marathi. He was popularly known for his work as a writer in the movies Aai Pahije (1988), Gammat Jammat (1987), Aaj Jhale Mukt Mi (1986), and Amhi Dhoge Raja Rani (1986). He also worked as an actor in Bin Kamacha Narva (1984). He contributed to over 16 Marathi albums. Shantaram Nandgaonkar wrote his first poem in class 10th.
He was fascinated by the light of the lamp. He was used to starting his Abhaya by illuminating a lamp in front of God. He didn’t like the description of flame in the lamp used by the poets at that time. He also didn’t like Shaheera’s description of Jyoti. Then his friends motivated him to write a poem reflecting the description of flame him. Then he came with his first poem 'Ka Uga Patanga Jalsi?' He was involved in politics as well. He was chosen by the Shiv Sena to serve in the Maharashtra Legislative Council in 1985. At his advanced age, he suffered from diabetes and Alzheimer's. He died on July 11, 2009, the eleventh.
