Manish Gaekwad is a Kolkata-based author, a journalist, a scriptwriter and a freelancer. His mother’s life inspired him to write. At 17, he started writing daily memoirs and short stories. In 2018, he published a fictional travel book and an autobiography, Lean Days. In 2023, Harper Collins published his book The Last Courtesan: Writing My Mother’s Memoir. The book is based on the life of Gaekwad’s mother, Rekhabai, and her struggles as a courtesan. Gaekwad has written extensively for The Hindu, Midday, and Scroll as a journalist. He also works as a script consultant. Gaekwad has written scripts for the Netflix series.
