Priya Dutt

Born on 28th August 1966, Priya Dutt, is an Indian politician. She got elected for the first time on 22nd November 2005, in Maharashtra to the 14th Lok Sabha from Mumbai North West Constituency and she represented the Indian National Congress Party. In 2009, she represented Mumbai North Central constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha. However, in 2014, Poonam Mahajan from Bhartiya Janta Party defeated her in 2014 Indian General Election. Priya hails from a family associated to Bollywood.

She is the daughter of Nargis and Sunil Dutt Sunil Dutt was a great actor, director, producer, >> Read More... , both notable actors of their time and she is of Punjabi descent. Her father was also a government minister and both her parents represented the Indian National Congress. Her brother is famous actor Sanjay Dutt July 29, 1959, was the day when the two legends of >> Read More... , and her sister is Namrata Dutt. She graduated with a B.A. degree in Sociology from Sophia College, Mumbai and holds a Post-graduate Diploma in television production Centre for Media Arts, New York.

After graduating from here, she worked in television and video and continued her study too. After her father's death, she won a seat in Lok Sabha in 2004, despite low voter turnout and she has been appointed as the secretary of All-India Congress Committee ever since.Her mother lost her life to cancer in 1981, following which Sunil Dutt started the NargisDutt Memorial Charitable Trust. Priya now runs the trust.

She also worked with Muslim refugees after the Mumbai riots, for which she reported of threatening phone calls and public harassment. Along with her sister, she wrote a memoir titled Mr. and Mrs. Dutt - Memories of Our Parents. She got married to Owen Roncon, a Roman Catholic, on 27th November 2003. He is a partner in Orange juice Entertainment and Fountainhead Promotions & Events Pvt. Ltd.
