Indian poet and singer Kavi Pradeep (born Ramchandra Dwivedi; 6 February 1915 to 11 December 1998) is well-known for his patriotic song “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logi,” which was written as a memorial to the soldiers who lost their lives defending the nation during Sino-Indian War. Kavi Pradeep’s patriotic songwriting for the 1940 movie Bandhan brought him initial acclaim. His song “Door Hato Ae Duniya Walo,” which he wrote for India’s first golden jubilee hit, Kismet (1943). Cemented his status as a nationalistic writer. However, he has to go underground to avoid being arrested right after the film’s release, which infuriated the British government. Over the course of a five-decade career, Kavi Pradeep penned around 1700 songs and patriotic poetry, which included the lyrics for about 72 motion pictures. Notable works include “Aao Bachcho Tumhein Dikhayen” and “De Dee Hame Azaadi” from the 1954 film Jagriti and “Chal Chal Re Naujawan” from the 1940 film Bandhan. H.M.V. issued a thirteen-song CD using his lyrics in 1958. He adopted the name Kavi Pradeep after being named the Rashtrakavi (National Poet).
He received the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honour in film, in 1997 for his lifetime accomplishments. In the little central Indian town of Badnagar, Kavi Pradeep was born, Ramchandra Narayanji Dwivedi in 1915 into a middle class Audichya Brahmin family. He developed a love for composing and performing Hindi poetry throughout his early school years and subsequently while he was working on his degree at the University of Lucknow. His first teacher, the gifted poet from Unnao District in Uttar Pradesh, Shri Girija Shankar Dixit (the eldest son of the well-known poet Shri Balbhadra Prasad Dixit), taught him in poetry. His unique manner mesmerised the audience at poet’s gatherings, known as Kavi Sammelans. He took on the pen name Pradeep at his period. After earning his degree from Lucknow University in 1939, he made the decision to enrol in a teacher preparation program.

Fans would watch his movies repeatedly only to see his soulful songs since they were so popular. Kavi Pradeep has always insisted on crafting songs with a straightforward language that conveyed a message appropriate for the circumstance. His straightforward lyrics and easily understandable language contributed to the success of his songs.
