Bhanu Bharti is a playwright and a theater director, born in 1947 in Ajmer, Rajasthan. He is the founder of Aaj Rangmandal Theater Group. In 1973, he completed his graduation from the National School of Drama. He was a sincere student, and his dedication showered him with a lot of awards, including the Best All Round Student Award and the Best Director Award for his project during his graduation. His love for art didn’t stop here, and he moved to Japan to learn the theater arts there. He learned it from the University of Tokyo.
From 1976 to 1978, he had been the Head of the Drama Department of Rajasthan University in Jaipur. Bhanu Bharti’s theater works are with tribal and folk artists. Pashu Gayatri, written by KN Panikkar, Amar Beej, and Kaal Katha, are some of his works related to the Bhil tribe of Rajasthan. Bhanu Bharti has staged more than 70 plays in his career so far. Besides this, he has directed a film too.
Bhanu Bharti taught scenic design, dramatic literature, and acting. Besides NSD and Rajasthan University, he worked in Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts in Delhi, Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal in Udaipur, and Sangeet Natak Akademi and Sahitya Akademi in Rajasthan. He had been in the higher posts, including the Director and the Chairman in those prestigious institutions. In 1997, he was honored with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his service to the theater.
