In the past decade, the jingle industry has made giant leaps in many arenas — quality of music production, openness towards new singers and overall professionalism. Many singers have begun their career working in ad jingles. One among them is Suraj Jagan. He also got a good exposure as Bollywood playback singer. Jingle voices were once unseen voices almost. But slowly as he grew up in singing, from an ad jingle singer to a playback singer, he almost became the reigning king amongst new generation playback singer. He started out singing jingles in the 1990s and became famous with his voice for a film “3-idiots”. Later on, he gave his voice for films like Shamitabh, Vishwaroopam( Tamil), Any Body Can Dance(ABCD), Ganapathi Bappa Moriya(Telugu) and Neethaane En Ponvasantham(Tamil). When he was chosen to playback for 3-Idots, for a song “Give Me Some Sunshine", the producer rejected his voice, but music composer
was bit adamant, and the singer received good acclaim after this film. He also has sung a song in Bengali, Tami. Telugu and Gujarati languages.
His singing career began in 1990, and then he performed solo for rock band Dream Out Loud, which was founded by Chardresh Kudwa and Suraj Jagan himself. It was a contemporary rock band in Indian rock music, and they also got a chance to appear in movie ‘Rock on!!’. Later on, the band company released many music albums. This singer also sang in movies like My Name is Khan,
, 7 Khoon Maaf, etc. His career reached a peak in the 2010s when he had sung many songs. His music style is inspired from that of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Seal, Sting, and Chris Cornell. He had never thought he would ever sing for a film, but it just had happened. He always wanted to be part of band music, which produced musicians like Shane, Elvis, Cliff or Colin. It is indeed a great journey for an ad jingle singer to get noted by a music wizard like Ilayaraja. This singer hails from Thrissur, Kerala and is a great fan of A R Rahman.
