Ash King, also known as Ashutosh Ganguly, is a singer born on 3 August 1984. He was born in London to a Bengali father and a Gujarati mother. At the age of 25, he bagged his first Bollywood debut as playback singer debut in Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s, Delhi 6 movie. Ashutosh Ganguly, whose name was shortened to Ash King as it could not fit in one line for a CD cover, hails from a background of musical artists. His discovery of music at a young age triggered his special relationship with musical notes. His grandfather, the late Brajendralal Gangopadhyay who was a freedom fighter, was also the first Indian music teacher in the classical category who had the chance to compose music with Rabindranath Tagore at his home and school named Shantiniketan.

King was asked to sing a few lines in Hindi but being so nervous at that moment, he sang Six Month, Eight days, Twelve Hours, a gospel R&B influenced song. On the spot, the maestro Rahman proposed him to fly to Chennai. After two weeks, he was in AR Rahman’s studio recording ‘Dil gira dafanta’ for Delhi 6.
