Arvind Singh Mewar is an Indian businessman and the acting chairman of the HRH Group of Hotels. He was born on December 13, 1944, at Udaipur, Udaipur State in India to Bhagwat Singh Mewar, who has been a titular ruler of Princely State of Udaipur or Mewar. He studied at Mayo College in Ajmer, where he also earned his school certificate to Cambridge University. Arvind took a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Udaipur and he also studied Economics, English Literature, and Political Science at the Maharana Bhupal College.
He also attended The Metropolitan College in St. Albans, UK and took up Hotel Management and later worked in hospitality services in Chicago, USA. The year 1979 – 1981, he lived and worked in Chicago, then went back to Udaipur and worked as his father’s personal secretary from 1981 – 1984. He also worked as the General Manager of the Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur from 1982 – 1983.
Arvind and his brother Mahendra Singh Mewar, an Indian politician who has served the 9th Lok Sabha, claimed they were both the 76th custodian of the House of Mewar. He was the Managing Director and Chairman of the HRH Group of Hotels, which was built by his father in 1963. Arvind has a collection of crystals and antique cars at the palace that is open to the public. He got married to Princess Vijayaraj of Kutch, Gujarat and they have three children namely Princess Bhargavi Kumari Mewar, Princess Padmaja Kumari Mewar, and Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar.
Arvind, besides being an aspiring sportsman and an aviator is also an avid cricketer. He represented his school and that Rajasthan State in many cricket tournaments in India. He is a member of the Bombay Cricket Association, Cricket Club of India, Marylebone Cricket Club in London, and the Rajasthan Cricket Association. Through Mewar Polo, he became the instrument in starting Polo in India.
He was also the patron of Polo in the United Kingdom through the Cambridge and New Market Polo Club. Arvind is also developing his passion for sports and aviation in the private airport of Shikarbadi Hotel in Udaipur. He is now working to make the Shikarbadi airport into commercial and make it a city airport. Because of his leadership and outstanding work in the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, he was awarded at the VIII Annual Gala WT Institution Award in 2012.
In the same year, he also bagged the HIFI Hall of Fame Award by Hotel Investment Forum India (HIFI) for epitomizing outstanding business practices, leadership, and achievements in the hospitality industry. He also promoted tourism in the country and because of this, Arvind also got the prestigious Agastya Award, which was grated by the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI).
He is also a member of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), has been an advisor to Rajiv Gandhi Tourism Development Mission, and he also became an Executive Member of the Rajasthan Foundation, who aims to promote the Rajasthan Tourism internationally.
