Sudhin Dasgupta was a creative Bengali music director, lyricist and, singer. His birth name was Sudbhindranath Dasgupta. He was born on 9-October, 1929, in Darjeeling, India. His origin was from Bengal. He passed away at the age of 52 on 10-January, 1982. He was proficient in his music from an early age. He could play several musical instruments such as Sitar-, Piano-, Mandolin-, Sarod-, Harmonium-, Guitar-, Violin-, etc.
He graduated in music from the Royal School of Music London. He was also a member of the hockey team in Bhabanipur Club when he was in Kolkata. During 1949-50, Sudhin and his family had to settle permanently in Kolkata-, that is the time when he gradually learned and dwelled into Bengali modern music. As he continued creating songs for the Calcutta North Squad of IPTA (Indian Peoples Theatre’s Association), and soon, he was allowed to compose his own music by Khitish Basu from the His Master’s Voice (HMV).
The years of 1950s-, 1960s-, 1970s-, are considered as the golden era for Bengali music. The first basic song recorded in Sudhin’s composition in Bechu Dutta’s voice in 1953. He gifted the audience with several super-hit-tracks, such as Ami Taar Thikana-, Naam Rekhechi bonolata-, Ei Jhir Jhir Base-, and many others. He won award Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards for the Best Music Director for the movie ‘Picnic’ in 1972. The Rabindra Bharti University of West Bengal paid homage to this great personality by creating an archive, where his life works were portrayed with two other personalities.
