Plabita Borthakur is an Indian Theatre Artist, actress, and singer. She was born in Dibrugarh District, Assam, India, to Probin and Rina Borthakur. Plabita was born into a family of artists. Probin is a classical singer, while Rina is a poet.
She has two elder sisters, Parineeta and Priyangi Borthakur. Both her sisters are a part of the television industry. The actress graduated from Jai Hind College, Mumbai. During her college days, she channeled her passion for music by creating a band with her friend.
They decided to name the band after their nicknames. Plabita's nickname is Manu. So, the band was called Manu and Chow. She later went to do an acting course from the Barry John Acting Studio. Plabita began her acting career with commercial advertising.
She has featured in more than twenty advertising campaigns. The actress made her debut in Bollywood with 2014, "PK." Rajkumar Hirani directed the comedy-drama. The film starred Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma in lead roles.
Plabita played the role of Anushka's younger sister in the film. The actress later appeared in an episode of the MTV television series, titled, "The Big F." Plabita played the part of Rehana Abidi in the film. The movie was a commercial and critical hit. The movie won Best Film Award at London Asian Film Festival, Spirit of Asia Prize at Tokyo International Film Festival, and a few other rewards.
Plabita Borthakur's performance was highly appreciated in the picture. When asked about her experience of playing Rehana, the actress shared that the character of Abidi is in total contrast with her reality, which made it fun to play.
Plabita also feels that her character is relatable to the teenagers, because just like Rehana, all college students go through peer pressure, and often end up taking certain wrong decisions in life. The actress was quite comfortable to work with stars like Ratna and Konkona.
