Melanie Chandra

Melanie Chandra is an actress and model from America. She was born on 28 February 1986 in Park Ridge, Illinois. Her parents are Malayali Indians. After completing her schooling, Melanie received her undergraduate degree in Mechanical engineering from Stanford University.

Upon graduation, she started working at McKinsey and Company but soon left the job to focus on her passion for acting and modeling. In 2007, she won the Miss India America pageant. Melanie began her acting career with commercial advertising.

She campaigned for Nescafe, Crocs, LG, Clinique and few other names. In 2012 she did a ramp walk for Vogue India magazine. After moving to Los Angeles, she auditioned for various television series roles. She landed her first role as a guest star in the popular sitcom, Rules of Engagement. She acquired parts in numerous other popular series, including Nashville, Parenthood, The Brink, and Brown Nation. Her role in Brown Nation was significantly recurrent.

Melanie is most famous for playing the character of Dr. Malaya Pineda in the CBS medical drama, Code Black. Her role in the sitcom is that of a strong, young, resilient lesbian doctor. Melanie left Code Black after the second season.

The news came as a bummer to her fans who took over the internet with sad e-mails, tweets, and messages. The very talented artist has a special interest in the martial arts. She won a black belt in Shotokan Karate. Few people know that she is also a wonderful pianist. After gaining fame and fortune through her role in Code Black, Melanie starred in various movies.

In 2012, she played the role of Seeta McKinsey in Love, Lies, and Seeta. Melanie's name was suggested for the award for the best actress for her role in the film. Some other movies she has worked in includes, For here or to go, Bicycle bride, Son of the morning.

The actress and model also did a small role in Sex and the city 2. D for Dopidi was her first Telugu movie. She believes in dedication and hard work. For her nothing is a matter of chance, she believes in a matter of choice.

Melanie is the co-founder of Hospital for Hope which is a non-profit organization that provides help to the poor of Indian villages. She partakes in several charity events. People often confuse her name to be of Japanese origin, but she claims her name proudly as unique and a name that no other actress will ever have.
