Indrani Mukherjee appeared in Hindi cinema during the 60s and 70s. She made memorable performances in film that include Usne Kaha Tha, Parvarish, Aakhri Khat, and . She also acted in Marathi films, including Apradh. Her role in Aakhri Khat, opposite , is lovingly remembered, even nowadays. Indrani had tasted success in a beauty competition during the year 1959. Indrani was given a screen test, and Indrani, as determined as she is, cried naturally in a scene for what she was asked to. The result was heartening; she cleared the test. Later, she acted in big films like Dharmaputra and Haqueeqat. The director of Haqeeqat, , made her the lead actress of his film Akhri Raat (1966). Rajesh Khanna played the male lead in the film. The film was widely appreciated critically, and represented India at the Academy Awards. The next 10 years saw Indrani Mukherjee as a character artiste and she acted in many films during that period. Hailing from Ahmedabad, Mukherjee worked in radio plays in Hindi at All India Radio. Indrani once stated that this experience would be an advantage to her in films. Mukherjee bid adieu to Hindi cinema during 1980s. She was wedded to Mr. Kishanlal Khanna and shifted to Nashik during 1992. It is indeed a loss to Hindi cinema to lose such a wonderful actress, that too at the peak of her career.
