Manmohan Krishna was born on 11th August 1921 in Lahore, Punjab in the British occupied India. He is considered as one of the greatest character actors in Bollywood history. Manmohan is a true icon, and one of the most beloved celebrity ever. Manmohan, growing up was a brilliant student. He joined the Bollywood industry quite late.
During his college days, Manmohan would do stage shows, skits, theatre and arts and he was also the editor of his college newspaper. Upon completing his Msc. In Physics, Manmohan started working as a professor in a college. He always had a desire to work in radio. During his days as a professor he was always looking for ways to enter the radio industry.
He then left his job and went to Mumbai to study Radio television engineering. In Mumbai, he was invited to sing in a small event, where his singing and hosting abilities were noticed by the legendary director at the time, V. Shantaram. Manmohan impressed Shantaram so much in the one meeting, that he invited Manmohan to his studios the next day for an audition.
In 1949, Manmohan made his debut on the silver screen in Apna Desh directed by Shantaram. The movie was based on a very controversial subject of partition and it shed light upon many social stigmas and taboos. The movie was originally pulled down from theatres for causing controversy, but it was later reinstated and became one of the most successful movies Manmohan Krishna’s career.
His performances were praised by critics and audiences. In 1950, Manmohan sang his first song in the film industry called Jhat Khol De in Dev Anand Dev Anand would be nostalgically remembered by fil >> Read More... starrer Afsar. Manmohan never could be a playback singer, but after 1950s Manmohan became one of the most successful actors ever. He was next seen in Baiju Bawra in 1952. Manmohan would be a supporting character in several other movies and in 1960, he won the Filmfare Award for best supporting actor in the movie Dhool Ka Phool.
He would also star in many Punjabi and other regional films too and earned critical acclaims for his performances. Manmohan’ movies and characters always promoted a great social message about religious equality and secularism. He became good friends with the Chopra brothers and would go on to work with them in over 10 films. He also directed the super hit Noorie which was the only film directed by him.
Manmohan passed away on 3rd November 1990 in Mumbai. His career spanned over 250 movies.
