Muazzam Bhat

The Gully Boy of Kashmir- Muazzam Bhat is an Indian actor, rapper, and scriptwriter. His song symbolizes the moods of the Kashmiri people and narrates the issues faced by them.

Muazzam Bhat was born and brought up in Srinagar, Kashmir. He developed a strong love for Urdu during the school day and he started writing Urdu poetry on his own. Muazzam took great interest in Shayari’s and started learning the technicalities. The actor completed his postgraduate in Journalism from the University of Kashmir. He started rapping the issues of Kashmir through his songs.

Muazzam Bhat hopes to impart knowledge about the issues faced by the Kashmiris through his songs. He started his own YouTube channel in 2017 as a medium to bring out the stories of all Kashmiri people through songs. He released his first music video Waqt Ki Alamat in 2018. In his further music videos Criminal and Manzoor Nahi, Muazzam Bhat has spoken on a range of political issues occurring in Kashmir from a common man’s perspective.

All his songs such as The Time Has Come, Borrowed Time, Panas Panas, Charis Cheth, and others talk about the hope, anger, tears, fights, and protests of the Kashmiri people. Bhat has lent his voice in the documentary “In the shade of fallen chinar” which talks about the Kashmiri resistance art. He has also performed live in the Festival of ideas and resistance held in Calicut in December 2019 and IIT Bombay. In 2020, he released the music video Smile and the song discusses smiling in the face of adversity. 

Before venturing into Bollywood, Muazzam has appeared in the commercial for Jack and Jones, an online shopping store. Muazzam Bhat played a key role in the 2019 Hindi-language romantic film Notebook. In the same year, his short film, Gaash: Light got released and went on to get nominated for awards. Muazzam Bhat - A rapper with a cause. Without taking any sides, Muazzam Bhat believes in bringing out the truth to the world.  As someone who grew up amidst protests and fights, Muazzam Bhat still hopes for peace and continues to believe in Resistance instead of Revolution.
