He is an Indian actor who has acted in both Hindi series and movies. He was brought up in a small town in Southern Mumbai called Girgaon. He graduated from his school, DGT high school with the class of 1979. After that, he proceeded to look for his landmark in the B-town. Mandrekar made his first acting debut in a movie called Ziddi. The movie was a huge commercial success and had an ensemble cast of actors consisting of

and Farida Jalal.
Though it was a minor role in the movie, it certainly did open doors for Mandrekar to other acting ventures in the film industry. It was not until a year later when he bagged his breakout role for a critically acclaimed series called C.I.D. He was given a supporting role of Sub-Inspector Sudhakar, where the storyline would usually revolve around a crime-investigation. C.I.D became highly popular among the Indian audience and it was well received by most of the critics. It now ranks as the longest running series in a television history spanning duration of almost nineteen years. Because of the success and its vast reach among the audience, the series was dubbed into many different languages. Some of the notable ones are Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam where Mandrekar is mentioned in every one of their end credits.
They also had lots of spin-offs, in which Mandrekar was also cast in one special spin-off episode of CID- Special Bureau. In late 1999, he bagged a role in another movie called Vaastav: The Reality. The film was a huge commercial success and was the second highest grossing film of 1999. The film was well-received by both audiences and critics and it is usually credited for putting the then-newbie actor,
