Trilok Kapoor

"Trilok Kapoor is a legendary actor who is part of Bollywood royalty as he is a member of the Kapoor clan, younger brother of actor Prithviraj Kapoor and uncle to the famous trio Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. He was born in 1912 at Peshawar, Pakistan, and it’s here he had completed his education. Although he wanted to join the struggle to achieve freedom, his father, Basheshwarnath Kapoor had forced him to join his brother in Bombay, where his elder brother was also trying to land roles in Hindi films. This was the turning point of his career. During his time, mythological films were achieving high popularity, and in one such film Char Darvesh (1933), at the young age of 18, he had played the lead romantic hero. His film career began from this movie, and he went on to star in his second film, Seetha, along with his elder brother, where they both had characterized roles as Lord Ram’s twin sons Luv and Kush. After achieving moderate success, he had also assisted director Hem Chandra in direction for about five years. But Kapoor was best known for his mythological movies, especially his pairing with Nirupa Roy. In 1950, his film Har Har Mahadev, where he played Lord Shiva, and Nirupa Roy cast as Goddess Parvathi, was released to widespread success and this movie had established Kapoor as a leading actor in Hindi movies. This pairing of Kapoor-Roy as Shiva-Parvathi had become a hit among the audience, and this led to their pairing in several movies, Shiv Shakti, Shiv Kanya, Jai Mahadev, Ganesh Janma and Ganesh Mahima. Another fact worth mentioning is that Kapoor had acted opposite Noor Jehan in Mirza Sahiban, before Jehan’s final move to Pakistan. After a long success in the film industry, Trilok Kapoor had died on September 23, 1988, with cause of death assumed to be due to a heart attack."
