Sameer

Sameer is an Indian Lyricist. He writes songs for the Hindi Cinema. His real name is Shitala Pandey. However, he is fondly called Rajan. He was born on 24th February in 1958 in a small town near Banaras, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his studies from Banaras Hindu University which is situated in Varanasi. He earned a post-graduation degree in Master of Commerce. Following his post-graduation, he started working for Central Bank of India as a Bank Officer. Although, after only a few days, he left his job because he didn’t have a knack for banking. In the year 1980, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his career as a lyricist. He started his journey as a lyricist in the year 1983 with the flick Bekhabar. The first film song written and recorded by him was Maar Ke Kataaree Mar Jaibe.

Sameer gained prominence and recognition in the year 1990 with his songs for blockbusters like Aashiqui and Dil. He won a Filmfare for Nazar Ke Saamne from the formerfilm. He rose and grew as a lyricist in the upcoming decades, writing for about 500 Hindi Cinema flicks which sum to over 4000 songs. Sameer’s father is the famous Lyricist Lalji Pandey, popularly know as Anjaan. Sameer is married to Anita Pandey. They have two daughters – Suchita and Sanchita and one son named Siddhesh. His mother is Indira Pandey, who lives with Sameer’s family. In the year 2007, writer Derek Bose wrote a biography on Sameer. The book was called “Sameer- A Way with Words.” On 17th February 2016, Sameer was awarded the honour of the Guinness World Record for being the Lyricist of maximum number of songs. He also holds the record for writing the most number of movie songs. In the year 2010, he informed about his future associations with Tumblr. He nurtures and reviews young artists and their artwork on social media platforms.
