Hasrat Jaipuri was an Indian poet and a bollywood lyricist who wrote not only in Hindi language but also in Urdu language . He studied English till medium level and later acquired perfection in Urdu and Persian with the help of his grandfather , Fida Hussain. At the age of twenty, he fell in love with a neighbourhood girl with exquisite beauty named as Radha. Neither religion nor caste could dominate their love. According to him, it is not necessary that a muslim boy should love only muslim girl. He himself said that he may have acquired perfection in poetry from his grandfather but the lesson of love was taught by Radha to him. At the age of twenty two, Hasrat Jaipuri came to Mumbai . He worked as a bus conductor earning merely eleven rupees monthly. During that time he used to participate in mushairas.

This film proved to be a ladder of success for jaipuri who wrote the song ‘ jiya bekaraar hai’ for this film. Soon, his relationship with Raj Kapoor started blossoming. He wrote lyrics for all Raj Kapoor films till 1971. Unfortunately, due to failure of mera naam joker and many more, Raj Kapoor turned to other lyricists . subsequently, ram teri ganga maili, and sangam happened that bought back the real flavour of Hasrat . He wrote yh mera prem patra padkr tum naraz na hona and made him regained the past memories of his love. He regarded the love letter in the song to the real love letter that he wrote to Radha , his wife.

He worked with many popular celebrities at that time and also wrote a screenplay for movie hulchul. During the tenure he was awarded filmfare award for best lyricist -1972 for zindagi ka safar and filmfare award for best lyricist- 1996 for baharon phool barsao and Josh malihabaadi award from urdu conference. Hard work with passion drived him towards success in bollywood as a lyricist . He has gone down as immortal in history of bollywood songs. His poetry as well as compostitions give us reflection of a mixture of both hindi as well as urdu language. With his excellence in art, he is called as ‘shayar’ in Indian society. Inspite of getting a steep rise in bollywood , he largely remained down to earth .also, his wife Radha, helped him remained same despite having huge name and fame. On advised by his wife, he saved enough in property lived with his savings in his oldage. We lost the gem writer on 17th September 1999, but he is alive in hearts of many those who inspired art .
