Nand Ram Das Bairagi, popularly known as Balkavi Bairagi, is a renowned poet, film lyricist, and politician born on February 10, 1931, in Manasa, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his post-graduate studies in Hindi at Vikram University in Ujjain. During his initial periods of writing, his friends, nature, and external conditions gave him enough confidence to produce masterpieces. From the very young age of eight, he developed an ardent love for poetry, and that made him write and recite his first poem in a speech competition conducted at his school.He was one of the poets who were privileged as Rashtrakavis (the national poets).
Throughout his literary career, he wrote several Hindi poems and dedicated most of the poems to children. Some of his famous poetry works include ‘Jhar gaye paat and Bisar gayi tehni’. As a Hindi film lyricist, he was renowned for his works in the movies Reshma aur Shera (1971), Jadu Tonna( 1977), and Ankahee( 1984). He served as a member of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Legislative Assemblies and also as the Minister of State for Information, the Minister of Language and Tourism, and the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies in the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
