Indira Dhar is an Indian filmmaker known for her work as a writer, director, and producer in the Indian film industry. She was born in Kolkata, India. She was a business management student, and her love for films established during her acting days in college. Dhar's initial work in the industry consisted of writing scripts and screenplays for several television shows and movies. She soon moved on to directing and producing her projects, and her work quickly gained recognition for its unique storytelling style and strong female characters. She has worked on movies like “Mulaqat,” India’s first live-action short film that throws light on the significance of self-love.
The film has received several awards and was nominated worldwide for Shorts TV awards backed by HBO and the 11th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival, “Soch,” a short film on domestic violence, abuse, and gender disparity. Her recent work on the short film “The Green Window,” based on an actual incident, which was adapted from the second story of her book “The Angels on Earth,” has garnered her a lot of attention and appreciation in the short film festivals and also won the 12th Dada Saheb Phalke Special Jury Award in the best film category.
"The Green Window" is a poignant exploration of the human condition and how we connect with others. Indira is working on her next short feature film, “Stars,” based on how the 2020 pandemic affected the lives of toddlers stuck at home.
