Sanyukta Kaza

One of the finest editors of the country, Sanyukta Kaza, is known for her works Ship of Theseus, Tumbbad, Paatal Lok, and Mismatched. Born and raised in Mumbai, Sanyukta Kaza always wanted to exhibit her artistic side to the world. So, she decided to step into advertisement making and joined Kishinchand Chellaram College, Mumbai, to pursue a Bachelor of Mass Media in 2000. In between, she taught herself Photoshop. Sanyukta Kaza felt that she could visualize and create something new every time. In 2003, she enrolled in the Film and Television Institute of India to learn about video editing. Later, she flew to California and did her Masters of Fine Arts from Chapman University. Sanyukta Kaza has been credited as an editor for several television commercials.

Netflix, Pepperfry, Volkswagon, Amul, Bingo, Vivel, Konark Cement, Society Tea, HDFC are some of them. She started her journey with the Documentary on the Bombay Dubbawallas named ‘Lunch on the Run: Bombay’s Dubbawallas.’ Following it, she worked in the television documentary Indique in 2007. Further, she edited a series of short films like Anniversary, His Man Friday, Don’t Touch It, Oye Teri, Masterchef, Haircut, Eggolution, The Sleepwalkers, and more. Out of the above, Sanyukta Kaza additionally served as a writer and producer for the short film Anniversary. Sanyukta Kaza gained mainstream popularity after working on the National Award-winning movie Ship of Theseus in 2012. The editing work of the movie received a lot of appreciation. Also, the film got screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, the Dubai International Film Festival, etc. In 2015, Sanyukta Kaza got roped into work in the web series about two individuals who fall in love from different backgrounds.

During the last part of the shooting of the cinema, Tumbbad, Sanyukta Kaza joined the crew as an editor. She worked hard to turn the movie into a masterpiece. We consider her being one of the biggest strengths of the film, which won three National Awards and became the first Indian film to be screened at Venice International Critic’s Week.

Besides being an editor, she is also the creative producer for Tumbbad. She got nominated for the Best Editing at the Filmfare Awards 2019, Zee Cine Awards, Star Awards, and more. Sanyukta Kaza has enjoyed success in the year 2020 with the release Paatal Lok, Kaali Khuhi, Mismatched, and Unpaused.
