Somnath Pal

Somnath Pal is an extremely talented director and animation artist. Somnath was born in West Bengal. After completing his schooling, he got into Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering College, where he pursued B.Tech in electrical engineering. He was once again, one of the highest achievers in his college, as he would always be in the highest scorers and he also won many awards and recognitions such as Outstanding Leadership Award by IEEE USA. After completing his graduation, Somnath got selected in the prestigious IIT, Bombay in 2008. He pursued Masters in Designing as his course. It was at IIT, where he discovered his talents for animations. Somnath realized how his creative mind, coupled with an excellent talent for animations can be used. He soon started making short films and animated featurettes. As a project, Somnath made a short film by the name of Candy Tree in 2009, it was a story about a boy who is trying to sow the last candy he has in his backyard, in hopes for unimaginable possibilities, and it is about he defends his tree from external forces. This film won the Best 2D short award at the 24FPS International awards in 2013.

In 2013, Somnath worked as a production designer on his first full-length feature film called Court. One of the most critically acclaimed movies, Court is about an aging and old aged activist who gets arrested for whistleblowing against numerous lawyers and judicial system. Somnath handled most of the production designs and animations in the movie. The movie won several national and international awards like the Best Actor, Best film at Buenos Aires International awards. It also won the Best film award at Film Critics Circle of India. In 2017, Somnath directed and animated another short animated film called Death of a Father. This is a movie about a boy who lives a mundane life, and suddenly his father passes away, and it shows how the boy deals with the rituals and ceremonies until the cremation. Apart from animated movies, Somnath is also an extremely talented comic writer, he has produced numerous comics about action heroes.
