Shekhar Sartandel

Shekhar Sartandel is a cinematographer and a director. He has directed some Hindi as well as Marathi films such as My Dear Yash, Joshi Ki Kamble, and Ekk Albela. He took birth in Maharashtra and belongs to the Marathi background. His career has seen the struggle, but finally, he made his place among the known directors in the Industry.

The Marathi director initially worked as a cinematographer. He contributed to Doordarshan, Mumbai and did cinematography for some of the Doordarshan serials.

After being a cinematographer for some time. Shekhar took the next step and became an assistant director in 1999. It revolved around a young man who aspires to be a doctor but faces corruption. His next venture My Dear Yash got released in 2013. Produced by Monish Babre, it got an International release in the United Kingdom as well. It featured Vidya Balan and Magnesh Desai in the lead roles. The idea of the film came into Shekhar’s mind during his teaching tenure at the Garware Institute. Producer Monish Babre helped him with the researches and scripts. Ekk Albela became Vidya Balan’s debut in the Marathi Cinema as she wanted to work in a Marathi language movie for a long time.
