Sanjay Surkar (19 August 1959 - 27 September 2012) was a Marathi film director. In addition to films, Sarkar also worked in television and theater. Sarkar was born on August 19, 1959, in Deoli, Wardha district of Maharashtra. He lived in 1983. He graduated from Commerce College.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in fine arts from Nagpur University, specializing in dramatics. He entered the entertainment industry by Sarkar Theater. Bringing him to Nagpur, he worked with many stages and acted during school and college days. He had been involved in several plays for children in Nagpur. The film ended with a positive message about bringing family together and won the National Film Award for Best Marathi Film. The film was later made up into Hindi as Baghban (2003). The 1999 film Garbahar addressed the issues of deception and the empowerment of women. In 2004, the Sarkar-Talwalkar team approached the audience at SachyaAath Gharat, questioning the impact of Western culture on teenagers. Sarkar has directed films on various social issues. Her 2009 film Sukhanth is the story of an older woman battling a car accident that puts her on tetraplegia. To honor her life and end her family's hardships, she pleads for euthanasia.

Jyothi Chandekar plays the lead role, while Atul Kulkarni and Kavita Lad play supporting roles. In 2011, Zurkar debuted in Bollywood with Stand By. The story is about the internal politics of football, with Siddharth Kher and Adinath Kotare playing the lead roles.The film did not perform well at the box office. Along with films, Shakar continued his work through television serials in Marathi and Hindi.

Mental Kulkarni, who plays the title role, won several awards and gave her a household name.In 2009, he with the help of others directed the Hindi television show Apnea Antara, about a 5-year-old girl with autism, Antara. In 2010, he produced a TV show called DhongiLegi Manzil Humin based on his film Ghaihar.

Sukara has also created a film on the life of freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak. He died suddenly of a heart attack on 27 September 2012 while on the set of his upcoming film Lathi. The film has been produced by Padmini Kolhapure and directed by Mahesh. He is also working on the script for Nitin Chandrakant Desai's coming film on the life of Indian freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak.
