Manjeet Singh is an Indian producer, director, and screenwriter. A self-taught artist who can paint, make films, and photographs, etc. He got his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the USA. He is widely considered as the New Voice of Indian Cinema.
Most of his works are a contemporary style of neo-realism, and he is considered to have a gift to extract notable performances from people who are non-acting professionals and uses natural light and real locations to depict his scenes. He has done engineering in mechanical and is a self-taught artist, who paints, photographs, makes films, etc. He quit his engineering career in the USA and then switched to film-making. He is considered by many to be the ' New voice of Indian Cinema'. Manjeet is a modern Neo-Realist filmmaker, with a gift to pull great talent from non-actors who use natural light/real locations to construct rich imagery. 'Mumbai Cha Raja' was his debut feature film, set in Mumbai slums. It is inevitably corresponded to 'Slumdog Millionaire' despite having made at a scrap of later's cost. His film premiered at the Toronto International Film festival in 2012, where he was also nominated for Toronto's Talent Lab.
The film contended in the Abu Dhabi, Palm Springs, and Mumbai Film Festivals. It won a Special Jury Prize in Mumbai. The film also won the 'Prasad award' in the 'Work in Progress section of 'Film Bazaar', Goa in 2011. Mumbai Cha Raja was nominated for the 'Producer's Lab' Cinemart, International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film traveled to Shanghai, Fribourg, Santa Barbara, Cinequest, Cleveland, Chicago, New York's Asian American, Stockholm Junior, Bradford, Tromso, Indian film festival Hague, Jaipur, Bengaluru, and many other festivals. His second feature film script, 'Chenu', a story founded on the vengeance tale of a low caste Dalit boy against landlord militia in the setting of their caste war with the fierce leftist 'Naxals' was an Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival's famous Ciné Fondation Atelier co-production department. It was a part of 'Produire au Sud', a co-production workshop at 'Three Continents Film Festival', in Nantes.
