Rajiv S Ruia is an Indian filmmaker. Although the year of his birth is unknown, Rajiv was born on 5 August. His parents are Shyam S. Ruia and Rani S. Ruia. Rajiv originally hails from Rajasthan but was born and brought up in Mumbai. Rajiv attended Fatima Devi English High School in Mumbai. Later, he took admission at SM Lal College where he completed his diploma course in software engineering and photo-design.
With Mumbai as the center of Bollywood, Rajiv aspired to become a director and started learning film-editing at the age of 16. In his 20s, Rajiv worked under the guidance of veteran filmmakers
and Vijay Reddy. During his stint as an assistant director for around 7 years, Rajiv gained a lot of knowledge about various aspects of screenplay and direction. As the years passed by, he continued to make music videos and went on to make over 200 music videos, which helped him in gaining confidence as well as experience.
In 2001, he debuted with the movie “Koi Hai”, a suspense film. Due to lack of proper marketing strategy, Koi Hai went unnoticed. Finally, people recognized Rajiv’s efforts when he brought “My Friend Ganesha” in 2007. My Friend Ganesha is an animated flick, in which a boy considers Lord Ganesha as his friend in the world of loneliness. My Friend Ganesha turned out to be a huge success at the Box-Office and was a huge hit among the children. As it became a hit, Rajiv made My Friend Ganesha 2 and My Friend Ganesha 3. Rajiv won many awards for his work including a National Award for “My Friend Ganesha” and received The DadaSaheb Phalke Academy Award, one of the most prestigious awards in India for Best Director.
In 2013, Rajiv directed “
Main Krishna Hoon
”. Main Krishna Hoon had
played cameo roles. Apparently, Juhi agreed to act in this project on the insistence of her children. As a matter of fact, Promila Hunter and Nandan Mahto co-produced Main Krishna Hoon. Since Nandan had a long-time association with Hrithik and Promila was the hairdresser of Katrina, the superstars readily agreed to get featured in their debut venture as a token of gratitude.
Rajiv also directed movies like
, Saansein, and Zindagi 50-50. Saansein is a horror flick with HitenTejwani,
in the lead roles. However, Saansein could not perform up to people’s expectations. In his review, Mihir Bhanage of The Times of India stated that, “Saansein did not have anything new to offer as it was just like any ordinary movie”. Rajiv will be making a film on Lord Shiva and has announced that Govinda would feature in his next project.
