Munaf Patel, a former Indian Cricketer, was born on 12 July 1983 in Ikhar Village, Bharuch, Gujarat. His father, Musa Patel, is a farmer, and his mother, Saeeda Patel, is a homemaker. He has a sister, Noorjahan Patel. He married Taslima, a local girl from his village, in 2010. They have a son together. He is a right-handed batter and also a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He was first recognised in 2003 when he caught the eyes of Kiran More, the then-chairman of Selectors, who then sent him to train under Dennis Lillee, a former Australian fast bowler and TA Sekhar at the MRF Pace Foundation, Chennai.Â
He played his first test match from March 9-13, 2006, at Mohali against England. His last test match was against West Indies at Rodeau from July 6-10, 2011. His first ODI match was against England at Margao on 3 April 2006, and his last ODI match was on 16 September 2011 against England at Cardiff. His debut T20 International match was against South Africa on 9 January 2011 at Durban, while his last T20I was against England at Manchester on 31 August 2011. He has also played in the teams of Asia XI, Baroda, Gujarat, Gujarat Lions, India Green, Indian Board President's XI, Kandy Tuskers, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Mumbai Indians, New York Warriors, and Rajasthan Royals.
He signed with Mumbai in a transfer deal with Sachin Tendulkar's backing in late 2003. In August 2005, he transferred to Maharashtra and made a comeback by taking ten wickets from England for the Board President's XI tour match. This event led to his selection for the Indian Test squad in the 2nd test against England in Mohali. He recorded seven wickets on 97 runs on debut and 4/25 in the second innings, the best performance by an Indian fast bowler on Test Debut. He showed his ability to swing the ball in both directions.
He played in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups as a part of the Indian Cricket Team. He played during India's One-day International series against Bangladesh in the 2007 World Cup. He played well in the India-Pakistan semi-final match held in Mohali and in the finals of the 2011 World Cup. He announced his retirement from all formats of cricket in November 2018.
