Hindi Cricket Madan Lal

Madan Lal is a former cricketer and a coach for the Indian national cricket team. He was also a member of the World Cup winning Indian squad of 1983. Madan Lal was born on 20 March 1951 in Amritsar, Punjab. His nickname is Maddipa. He played for Punjab (1968-1972) and Delhi (1973-1991) at the national level. He has a record of 5270 runs and 351 wickets in the Ranji Trophy, which is considered one of the best in the national competition. Madan Lal made his Test debut for India against England at Manchester in June 1974. Since then he has played 39 Tests, having a record of 1,042 runs at an average of 22.65, and 71 wickets at 40.08, along with 15 catches. Among his memorable performances were his bowling against England at Bombay (1981) and his brilliant 74 against Pakistan at Bangalore (1983). Madan Lal made his one-day international debut against England at Leeds in July 1974, Since then he has played 67 ODI's, scoring 401 runs and taking 73 wickets. This includes two Cricket World Cups- the 1975 Cup Event ( the first ball to Dennis Amiss of England was by him) and the 1983 Cricket World Cup, which won them the Champions Title.

He took three wickets in the 1983 World Cup, which was responsible for crumbling of the West Indies’ batting. After retirement, Madan Lal remained connected in the game. He was the coach of the Indian national team from September of 1996 to1997. He was a part of the Selection Committee for two years consecutively (2000, 2001). He was the coach of the Delhi Giants-an Indian Cricket League team from 2008 to 2009 when it stopped functioning (his son Kunal played for Ahmedabad Rockets). Madan Lal runs a cricket academy in Siri Fort Sports Complex, Delhi. He became the chief coach of the Sanjay Jagdale MPCA Academy in 2010. Madan Lal also had a stint in politics. In 2009 March, he contested the by-elections at Hamirpur Parliamentary constituency in Himachal Pradesh as a representative of Indian National Congress. In April 2013, Madan Lal came on a crime show called Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath on Life OK at 9 pm.He was roped in to play a cricket expert who will help the team of Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath cricket-related crimes.
