Born to the textile business manager Deepak Gambhir, Gautam Gambhir is the Indian International cricketer. He also has a younger sister. But Gambhir’s grandparents adopted him just after eighteen days of his birth and since then he has been living with them. In fact, he considers his uncle as his teacher and often takes advice from him for various matters. He completed his schooling and college from New Delhi and Sanjay Bharadwaj, and Raju Tondon had taught him to play cricket. In the year 2000, he got chosen for the National Cricket Academy in Chinnaswamy Stadium located in Bangalore in Karnataka.
He played his first ODI match in the year 2003 while playing for The TVS cup. He even won the award for Man of the Match in one of the matches. His 103 off 97 balls, the maiden century which he played against Sri Lankan team in the year 2005 had been remarkable. His debut in Test cricket was not impressive as he scored only three runs. He received two three chances in test cricket, but he failed to prove himself, so he was pulled out from the test cricket team. Still, he did not give up and played some ODI’s between the years 2005 to 2007.
But he wasn’t chosen for the world cup. In the year 2007, he became a part of The Indian squad for the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, which India won in South Africa, defeating Pakistan in the final. He performed great in the tournament and went on becoming the India’s top scorer who also included three fifties. 2008 was the golden year for him. He made unbeaten 102 runs against Sri Lankan team at The Gabba and 113 runs in Sydney. His remarkable performances helped him secure a part in the test cricket team as well.
In 2009, he was titled as the ICC Player of the year for test cricket and was the No. 1 batsman in the ICC rankings in the month of July. He went on playing successful innings and in the year 2011 scored 97 runs in the finals of the world cup. The same year, he married Natasha Jain, daughter of a businessman. They have been living happily. Gambhir also played in the matches of Indian Premier League from Delhi, Kolkata, etc. In the year 2011 IPL auction, Gambhir proved to be the favorite player fetching $2.4 million as a bid from the team, The Kolkata Knight Riders. This made him the highest paid player in the cricket history. He continues playing well for the team.
