Smita Nandi

Born on the 7th of April, 1994, Smita Nandi was a participant in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa; an acclaimed TV reality shows for singing in the years 2007-2008. Known for her soothing and melodious voice, this talented little girl hailed from Tripura in Agartala and was studying in Eighth grade while participating in the show. She was then undertaking studies in Sishu Vihar High School. Born as the daughter of Sujeet Nandi, who is a Medical Representative and Mita Nandi, she started showcasing her singing prowess on stage at the age of two and half years. Her grandmother’s harmonium was what showed her the path, and this was well pillared by encouragements from her parents as well as from her principal then, Mr.Pranoy Dey Burman. While at the show, she had been trained for almost four years by her mother and her teacher, Guru Deepak Bhowmick. She was also learning classical Rabindra Sangeet under Guru Sudipto Shekhar Mishra. A learner of Classical Rabindra Sangeet and Hindustani classical, she had been called for auditions at Mumbai after her recorded CD that she had sent for selection was thought to deserve well.

She attributes the fame and a new family that she has received to the talent ground that Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is. Talking about food, sweet dishes do not lag behind in her list- Channar Payaes tops it. Her scores too never lagged behind academically. Her name came up in the news when her father had a heart attack which he was said to have suffered from hearing the news of his daughter’s elimination in the show. He later said that he thought his daughter deserved to be in the finals although he believed this was what destiny had had for them. This incident of Smita’s father’s heart attack even promoted a slight fear among her fellow contestants who chose to walk out of the show but was later called back.
