Ustad Dilshan Khan is a Hindustani classical singer and vocalist. He was born on August 7, 1941, in Kolkata. His birth name was Arabinda Dasgupta. He was born to P M Dasgupta and Bhabani Dasgupta. His elder brother, Buddhadev Das Gupta, is an eminent sarod maestro. His wife, Padmashree Begum Parveen Sultana, is a classical Assamese Hindustani vocalist of the Patiala Gharana. She is popularly called as "Queen of Classical Vocal." She is the voice behind the popular song 'Humein Tumse Pyaar Kitna.' They have one daughter. He has studied at St. Xavier's Collegiate School, Kolkata, where the renowned music composer, R. D. Burman, was his classmate.
His profession was marine engineering. But, he wanted to pursue a music career. At the age of four, he learned how to play tabla. Later, under the guidance of Hidan Banerjee, N.C. Chakravorty and Gyan Prakash Ghosh, he took up singing as a profession. His inspiration was Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. He became a disciple of Kirana gharana vocalist Padmashree Faiyaz Ahmed Khan and Ustad Hiaz Ahmed Khan after shifting to Mumbai permanently. Khan, along with his wife, has performed in numerous music concerts together. They have sung for many albums together that include Marvelous Jugalbandi, Ethereal Duo, Two Voices, From Dawn Until Night, One Plus One in Harmony, Khayal se Bhajan Tak, Duologue in Raga and many more.
