Timir Baran was a famous music composer, singer, and songwriter. On 10th July 1904, he was born in West Bengal, India. He was born into a musical family. His family was quite reputed in the olden times. And through his parents only, he came in contact with Rabindranath Tagore. Timir Baran learned harmonium and sitar under the mentorship of Rajendralal. He learned to play many other instruments during that time. Once he went to the concert of Baba Allauddin Khan in Kolkata. Timir was awestruck after listening to Baba and asked him to be his Guru. After receiving training under Baba for several years, he went to Uday Shankar’s Cultural Centre at Almora. He used to compose music for Shankar's Ballets for the next few years. Shankar was very impressed with Timir and decided to take him with him on America and Europe Tours.
After returning to Almora, he started experimenting more with his music, and now he began to compose music for theatre plays. Timir has become a renowned name in India and Abroad after his musical tours. On 10th February 1931, Birendra Nath Sarkar set up New Theatres. Timir used to compose music for the films produced by Sarkar. He has worked in several films and movies. In 1939, he composed music for a movie named Adhikar for the first time. P.C. Barua directed the movie. and Ajoy Bhattacharya wrote the storyline for the film. Since then, there has been no going back for him. He got more and more work opportunities and has composed music for nearly 100 movies and serials. Some of his composed films were Bicharak (1959), Jago Hua Savera (1959), Fankar (1956), Anokhi (1956), Baadbaan (1954), Foot Path (1953), Kumkum (1940), etc. He was regarded as one of the respected composers of his time who contributed significantly to Indian cinema. He was the only person who bought Indian music from the theatres to the film screen. On 29th March 1987, he died in Kolkata, India.
