H. Vasant

H Vasant was a music composer who worked at Lucknow Doordarshan. He was married to Kalpana and had a child, Gunjan. Shobhna Jagdish, a former news anchor on Lucknow Doordarshan, is Vasant’s sister-in-law. Vasant was a Mangalorean. Vasant started his career as a choral singer at All India Radio. He moved to Bombay in 1974. He worked on many projects with Aparna Maykar and Asha Bhosle.

He debuted as a music composer for the Doordarshan serial Bibi Natiyon Wali. The song was an instant hit. and the serial won awards.

While working in All India Radio as an A-grade composer, he experimented with new dimensions in music. He had a solid hold on Western music, apart from his interest in Traditional music. Vasant had taught music to free for many children. He was not only a composer but a music arranger, choir conductor and pianist. In 2006, he was felicitated with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to music.

Vasant died due to some heart-related ailment on 12^th April 2021.
