K Vaikunth is a celebrated cinematographer in Bollywood. He was born in 1925 in Margaon, Goa. His off-screen name is Vaikunth Dattaram Kunkolienkar. In 1949, Vaikhunt began a career in cinematography as an assistant to Surendra Pai in Bari Behen. He made his debut in the filmmaking industry with Amar Kumar’s Garam Coat. Besides cinematography, Vaikunth also made documentaries. His first documentary was The Story of Kashmir, directed by Rajbhans Khanna. In 1964, he also made The Great Betrayal, based on the Indo-China War. He was honoured with the President's Medal for his documentaries. In 1956, he worked in And Miles to Go and was honoured with the Bengal Tiger Award. His other documentaries include Goa Like, Goa After Liberation, Goa Marches On, and Aamche Bhau.
