Ishwar Shunya is an Indian Actor, Director, Acting Coach, and Scriptwriter. He is also known by the name Ishwar Singh.Ishwar Shunya was born and raised in the capital city of New Delhi. He has a brother named Pratap Singh and a sister named Pinku. Ishwar Shunya is very well educated and has a total of four master’s degrees. He has traveled across the country for his degrees. After completing his university level studies, Ishwar Shunya then completed his master’s degree in Psychology at Nehru College in Faridabad. Ishwar Shunya then went on to get a second Master of Philosophy degree in Psychology from The Global Open University in Nagaland.
Ishwar Shunya was interested in teaching. She he decided to do his B. Ed at Maharishi Dayanand University in Haryana. For many years, Ishwar Shunya worked as a Psychology teacher at DPS School in Ghaziabad. He additionally also studied JRF at the Ministry of Culture, has a diploma in Folklore and Culture, and has a master’s degree in Hindi Literature from IGNOU University. While working as a teacher, Ishwar Shunya used to use his evenings to pursue his passion for theater. His interest in theater began in 1997 after seeing Vijaydan Detha’s ‘Charandas Chor.’ Ishwar Shunya first started acting with Act One and Jana Natya Manch troupes, followed by Habib Tanvir’s Naya Theater in Bhopal.
After a couple of years in Bhopal, Ishwar Shunya returned home to Faridabad in 2001. For a while, he was content with just acting but soon realized that he wanted to direct as well. However, the groups that he would perform with were not supportive of his desire to direct. To counter this problem, Ishwar Shunya decided to start his own organization known as Saanjha Sapnaa in 2011. The theater group that welcomed creative voices and anyone was free to direct, write or act.
Throughout his career, Ishwar Shunya has had many encounters with extremist groups for his decisions to stage plays like ‘Jaaneman…a Hijra,’ which focuses on the transformation of transgender through child abuse and abduction. But Ishwar Shunya is not afraid and believes that it is important to speak against the injustices in society. Ishwar Shunya's dedication extended beyond the stage. He believed actors should not pay fees, reflecting his passion for the art. He also confronted challenges, such as the lack of rehearsal spaces and government grants. Yet, Ishwar remained steadfast in his belief that the stage could raise a powerful voice against societal injustices.
