Sajjan Lal Purohit, popularly known as Sajjan in the Indian Film industry, is a Bollywood and stage actor. He was born on January 15, 1921 in Jaipur. He wanted to be a lawyer and had graduated from Jaswant College in Jodhpur. Initially, he was introduced onto the screen as an extra in movies like Masoom (1941) and Chowringhee (1942) while he was working as a laboratory apprentice in Calcutta. His acting debut was in the film Dhanyavad. Previously, he had done minor roles in Prithvi Theatre. It was in 1950 that he became prevalent in films that followed Bombay Theatre's Muqaddar. Starting from 1950s till the 1960s he was the hero or side-hero for many films including, Paridhaan, Ghar-Ghar Mein Diwali, Bahana, Rail Ka Dibba, Haa-Haa-Hee-Hee-Hoo-Hoo, Halla-Gulla, Saiyan, Malkin, Nirmohi, Poonam Jhanjhar, Lagan, Girl School, Mehmaan, Kasturi, and Sheesha. He had the experience of working in more than 150 films. Some of the famous movies are Rail Ka Dibba, Johny Mera Naam, April Fool, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Jhumroo, and Bees Saal Baad. His last screen appearance on screen was in the film Shatru in 1986.
