Avinash Vyas was a music composer, lyricist, and singer who worked mainly in the Gujarati film industry. He was born on July 21, 1912. His place of birth is Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. In his 20s, he went to Mumbai and began learning music under the maestro like Ustad Allaudin Khan. Being a proficient musician, he shortly became a freelance instrumentalist and joined HMV for their Young India record labels. His first gramophone record was issued in 1940, and his compositions started to be aired on AIR.

In 1943, he marked his debut as a film music composer in the Gujarati film “Mahasati Ansuya,” partnering with the tabla maestro, Ustad Alla Rakha. It was followed by Laheri Badmash (1944) and Krishna Bhakta Bodana (1944), which were unsuccessful. He got his first significant hit in 1948, where he composed music titled “Gunsundari,” a bilingual in Hindi and Gujarati. Since then, he has composed over 1200 songs for one-ninety Hindi and Gujarati films. He had also contributed to non-film songs, and thus, his total contribution exceeded 10,000. He was a multi-faceted person and had portrayed the roles of a singer, composer, songwriter, actor, and writer. He had a stellar career in Gujarati film, and his career spanning nearly four decades.

Avinash Vyas had received the Gujarat State annual Film Award for the best lyricist and best music director for a record 25 times. He was awarded the Gaurav Puraskar (Pride Award) from the Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Nrutya Academy. In 1970, he was honored with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri from the Government of India. His several notable compositions were compiled and released on March 29, 2012, as a music disk under the “Avinash Vyas – A Musical Journey” name. Avinash Vyas lived for 72 years and died on August 20, 1984. Three years after his death, his last film Bhakta Gora Kumbhar was released.
